For a nurse today working in a public health sector means that he/she is working in a family and is treating them as the family members. As a nurse the role that is performed is that of the advocate, the healer, the manager of the records and the care consultant also. The role of the nurse today shall be completely understood by the nurses as that should become more empathetic towards the social and the cultural changes in the scenario. My prior knowledge on this topic has been enriched because before researching I only possessed a blurred idea about this subject and even I had never thought that health could be so important an issue. I had many friends who were addicted to smoking and also many who still have completely given into eating all the time. They love food so much that they have almost denied everything else at the cost of food and I feel that the case is such for which they live to eat, before exploring the importance of health and that how the contemporary health has been almost a triggering issue. After having this fair idea about smoking and obesity as the two epidemics, I feel that is should be joining hands with the NGOs who work towards the same cause. Now I have developed a greater sense of healthy living and definitely the contemporary health patterns are disturbing in nature.

Gender and SocietyAs old is the universe as old becomes the concept of defining the two genders present on the earth. When god created the humans it was only a male and the female which the biologists distinguished through their pictorial and the genetic bifurcations. The same only explains the sexual differentiation between the two bodies. Through time the people came and the civilizations went through, thus bringing many ideas and the related to the difference in the two bodies. Gradually there were the hierarchies born in the society in which the two identifiable sexes became the ‘gender’. The gender is seen as a cultural make up whereas if seen biologically they are the two different formations of the X and Y chromosome. From one culture to another there are many generalities that are made and thus there prevail ideas in the society like the division of the work in accordance with the gender, further the cultural regulation of the experienced beings let the others be tagged on the basis of the activities they do and the behavior they possess. Such facets that take place in the society are responsible to give birth to another factor called stereotyping the genders. This was a social tag given to the two and this concept made one gender to be superior over another. Thus, the two binaries are the man and the woman, and that man is that gender all in his right to be stronger than a female.This concept can be related to as the gender discrimination in the society. The important point which can be raised is that what actually makes the men and women different. The same can only be elaborated with respect to the societal understanding of it. There are the ideas of masculinity and the feminity which the society has formed on the basis of the muscular strength. This is the critique of the society that they have actually created the flaw in the society. The same members exhibiting the social set up constructed the knowledge in the society on false basis and are the sole ingredients to make the society adulterated in its very essence. At the organisational level the two genders also face the ‘spacialization’ of the gender.  The first framework that can be noticed is the Horizontal Segregation- this is referred to as the seclusion of the genders with respect across the different organisations. For example the nursing and the school teaching are always seen to be best suited for the female population (Williams, C, Muller, C, and Kilanski, K 2012) . This is the archetypal notion that has been born in the society from a gendered perspective and therefore the rigorous works like the engineering and the construction related work are generally taken up by men. Another framework is called the Vertical Segregation, these are the spaces which are present across an organisational set up. It is important to see that how the work conditions should be provided to the individuals according to the hierarchical system. One sentence in the course which was so appealing to me was that “Gender Stratification describes an unequal distribution of rights and resources between men and women”. I find it to the point and thus delivering the right message in one sentence. The sentence shows that how biased each and everything has turned up in the society from the fundamental rights to the availability of then resources. I particularly was interested in this topic because I have read about the history and the literature and I was well informed about the concept of ‘gender’ in the society. It interested me because I always wanted to deconstruct these baseless norms and I find that these issues are non-significant in today’s time. Be it the women or the men they walk equally and also they possess the same amount of intellect and thus no gender is superior to the other. I always wanted to clarify my thoughts on this issue and I feel that others should be sensitive to this because the concepts of masculinity and feminity are not natural but are the only tags which have been designed by the society.

Infancy

As a life of a human being begins it is called as the period of infancy, it is stretched up to the age of a 2.5 years. The initial two months of the infancy is called as the neonatal period. The baby has certain expectations from his/her surroundings and especially from the mother whose body’s heat is essentially needed. Thus enough of the milk is required by the new born so that it can keep naturally warm and dry. The mother’s milk is thus most beneficial for the lifetime as that prepares the little body against the potential harms and the infections. The other important factors like regulation of the heart rate, the temperature of the body, the breathing rate, the recognisation and the bond which is formed with the maternal companion are significant for the positive growth. The skin to skin affect is such that it also helps the baby to gain comfort with the mother, it adds to the development of the certain intrinsic values in the infant’s system.There comes a natural need to let the infant experience the normal activities of the life gradually, like the feeding process, the bathing activity, then noticing the emotions of the child and then dressing the baby. This is how the infant gains familiarity with the existing world. The life of the infant is seen as the first transition to the Extrauterine world, this defines the activities which the infant does in the initial thirty minutes of the birth of the child, the next change occurs in the second phase that is in the 4-8 hours of the baby’s birth. The little body starts getting accustomed to the physiological system which constitutes the respiration, heart beat and rate, the behavior of the immune system and the like are also determined through this period.

The growth of the infants and the healthy development is the major issue and thus it is an important one. The development in terms of growing of the fingers, feet and the taking of the new positions while sleeping, the excitement to stand and point at thinks as the baby grows up a few months. Cognitive Development like the imitation tendency, the playing habits of the child, the development of the body and the self-recognition factor, the social development of the child like the attachment to the parent, the separation anxiety etc. in over all development of the child language development is of much importance like from crying, to babbling, to vocalization etc. The area of confusion that I still feel as to be there in the office is the how a child is so much naturally attached to the mother even when there are the scientific facts which explain such behavior. I am confused that everything is not explainable because there is a very special bond that exists between a new born and the mother, and that stays beyond the scientific precincts for me (Boeree, C 2009).
