The discussion with teachers and joint lesson planning helps her in supporting her pupils of year 8 class more efficiently. According to (Versey, 2006), the prime role of a teaching assistant is the learning of students either individually or collectively, the TAs also helps teacher in preparing, worksheets and recording assessments, and they also suggests teachers how to support their pupils for better learning. Rachel also understands her pupil’s likes and dislikes, and is advisable by (Versey, 2006), that even though the TA is attached to one student but it will be more productive if they do collective work, this is good for both pupil and the other students. As TAs are more approachable for students then the teachers, so it is important for Rachel to maintain healthy relationships with students, but within professional boundaries. Rachel also takes rounds to keep an eye over her students to understand their off-task behaviors (Versey, 2006).In contrast to the way she was dealing with Michael, she has to deal with other students in library. She had to be with Michael and continually support him in his tasks, whereas in library she encourages her pupils to work independently in a quite and peaceful environment like library. Rachel also investigates what her pupils like to do and what they don’t and support them accordingly.
